Visit Dawson Creek and come see where the Alaska Highway began! Check out the Northern Alberta Railway Park and discover the grueling nine-month struggle soldiers endured as they plowed through more than 2,400 km (1,488 mi.) of rugged mountain terrain to build the highway that would eventually transport war materials from BC, through the Yukon, and up to Alaska during World War II. Have your picture taken at the Mile 0 Cairn, at the southeast end of the park, or at the Mile Zero Post, one block west of the park, to commemorate the highway's success. In the winter, nearby Bear Mountain offers more than 20 km (12 mi.) of groomed cross-country ski trails, as well as downhill skiing for the whole family. The Paradise Valley Snowmobile Club, located just out of town, also offers nearly 500 km (300 mi.) of snowmobile trails.

In the summer, grab your cowboy hat and your biggest belt buckle and join in the festivities of the Dawson Creek Fall Fair and Stampede. Usually the second weekend in August, this event features a fun-filled weekend of parades, fireworks, and midway rides, combined with the fast-paced adrenaline rush of World Champion Circuit chuckwagon racing. With the Silver Seven BBQ, live entertainment, and a community dance, the Fall Fair and Stampede promises to be a rip-roaring good time for visitors and locals alike!

Dawson Creek is located near the junction of Highway 97 South and the Alaska Highway, 406 km (254 mi.) northeast of Prince George. Commercial bus and air service is available. Ferries also sail from Alaska, Vancouver Island, and the Queen Charlotte Islands to Prince Rupert, 1,130 km (707 mi.) southwest of Dawson Creek on Highway 16.
